Disney Reportedly To Buy Stake in $3.5 Billion MLB Web Unit

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) agreed to acquire a one-third stake in the video-streaming unit of MLB Advanced Media, L.P., in a deal that values the business at about $3.5 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter. Disney will also obtain a four-year option to buy an additional 33% stake in the digital arm of Major League Baseball, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public. MLB spokesman Matt Gould and ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys declined to comment.

Disney Reportedly Seeks To Acquire Stake In BAM Tech

Industry sources believe that The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) is looking to acquire as much as one-third of BAM Tech, at a valuation approaching $3 billion, with “path to control” that would eventually allow it to acquire a controlling interest in the business. Disney would be paying up to $1 billion for its stake in the company, with the possibility of more investment down the road. Last month, Disney would like to invest in BAM Tech, the video tech business that pro baseball’s MLB Advanced Media, L.P. unit would like to spin off.
