Elsevier Inc. Key Developments

Elsevier Announces the Launch of SoftwareX

Elsevier announced the launch of a new concept journal, SoftwareX. The online-only journal provides a dedicated publishing home for all software which fundamentally impacts the research process, but traditionally would not be acknowledged or reported on systematically. SoftwareX is an open access journal that publishes peer-reviewed open source software. With the launch of SoftwareX, this software can now get the recognition as a scientific publication and as such will also be systematically organized, curated, indexed and shared through research databases. This allows for the wider scientific community to find, evaluate, credit, reuse or build on valuable software development that has been previously done. The journal forms an outlet, dissemination channel and sharing platform for software applications and the articles include summaries of where the software has already been used and its impact. Articles published in SoftwareX also display software metadata such as the version, operating system, programming language and the license under which the software is published. All software will be available within the journal's repository on GitHub. The journal will be under the editorship of Dr. Kate Keahey, Argonne National Laboratory, USA, Dr. Frank Seinstra, Netherlands eScience Center, The Netherlands, and Dr. David Wallom, Oxford e-Research Centre, University of Oxford, UK.

AMI Software and Elsevier Announce Agreement for Integration of Scopus Data into AMI Enterprise Intelligence

AMI Software (AMI) and Elsevier announced the agreement to provide AMI Software's core product AMI Enterprise Intelligence (AMI EI) with access to data from Scopus, the abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, with smart tools that track, analyze and visualize research. The AMI-Elsevier agreement allows AMI customers, with a subscription to Scopus, to import bibliographic records from Scopus, via an automated process, into AMI EI. This allows them to significantly improve the quality and the relevance of their online monitoring and data collecting projects, expanding on their capabilities of online information analyses and distribution. The creation of a dedicated Scopus connector by AMI Software will help the company gain precious time in collecting scientific data. Combined with other information sources, this solution allows to enrich the bibliographic collections from which the company can derive data and scientific literature analyses.

Elsevier Launches ExamPrep, New Medical Exam Preparation and Simulation Tool for Medical Students

Elsevier announced the commercial launch of its new English language medical exam preparation and simulation tool, ExamPrep, across UK, Northern Europe and EMEA-LA. In collaboration with Learning Objects Inc., ExamPrep uses the latest adaptive technology to pre-test learners to formulate individual benchmarks. ExamPrep then presents questions and remediation content from Elsevier's most trusted sources - including Kumar & Clark's Cases in Clinical Medicine, Medical Sciences, and Gray's Anatomy for Students - based on their progress and performance. Students can also create their own learning plan, actively involving and engaging them in their own performance and development, as it moves them through their revision to achieve exam success. At an institutional level ExamPrep allows faculty to create assignments from an extensive bank of questions or create questions with an author questioning tool. ExamPrep also provides analytics that enables faculty to monitor students' progress, assess exam readiness, identify topics that require further review and potentially adjust their teaching to deliver improved learning outcomes. Incorporating Learning Objects' Difference Engine, Elsevier built ExamPrep on an adaptive assessment algorithm that takes into account learner mastery and established learning science.
