Universal Music Group Names Jay Frank as Senior Vice President of Global Streaming Marketing

Universal Music Group announced that music and media industry executive Jay Frank, who founded the music and marketing analytics companies DigSin and DigMark and who previously held positions with Viacom's CMT and Yahoo!, has been named to the newly created role of Senior Vice President of Global Streaming Marketing. Frank will report jointly to Michele Anthony, Executive Vice President of Recorded Music, and Andrew Kronfeld, President of Global Marketing. After joining UMG, Frank and his employees will remain based in the Nashville headquarters of DigSin and DigMark. In his new role at UMG, Frank will be responsible for using data and analytics to maximize the performance of Universal Music's artists across all streaming platforms, evaluate the effectiveness of the company's global streaming marketing efforts and identify opportunities for artists on streaming platforms. He will also oversee the curation and management of Universal Music's global playlists, coordinate a cohesive worldwide playlist strategy across the company's labels and work with third-party playlist owners to promote artists. Frank founded DigSin as a singles-focused music company that leverages streaming promotion to foster artist growth. He later founded DigMark to design and implement data-driven marketing campaigns. Before founding DigSin, Frank was Senior Vice President of Music Strategy for Viacom's CMT, where he used innovative multi-platform promotional strategies to help drive music video ratings to all-time highs.

Ericsson Partners Universal to Create 5G Concert Video App

Ericsson has partnered Universal Music to create Streamr, a 5G-ready tool designed to enhance concert experiences through real-time sharing of live videos. The smartphone app and network infrastructure enables users to share their experiences by streaming live video from their phones during an event. Receivers of the live streams can be other users on handheld devices inside the arena, the large arena screens or internet viewers via a web portal.

Big Machine Label Group has acquired Republic Nashville, a label imprint that it previously part-owned with Universal Music Group, according to a media report.
