Universal Music Group, Inc. Announces Unaudited Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2015

Universal Music Group, Inc. announced unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company's revenues were €1,214 million compared with €1,019 million a year ago. Income from operations was €91 million compared with €93 million a year ago. EBITA was €89 million compared with €97 million a year ago. For the six months, the company's revenues were €2,311 million compared with €2,003 million a year ago, driven by growth in all its divisions. Income from operations was €179 million compared with €159 million a year ago. EBITA was €171 million compared with €153 million a year ago. This good performance reflected the benefit of both revenue growth and cost control.

Universal Music Group Names Jay Frank as Senior Vice President of Global Streaming Marketing

Universal Music Group announced that music and media industry executive Jay Frank, who founded the music and marketing analytics companies DigSin and DigMark and who previously held positions with Viacom's CMT and Yahoo!, has been named to the newly created role of Senior Vice President of Global Streaming Marketing. Frank will report jointly to Michele Anthony, Executive Vice President of Recorded Music, and Andrew Kronfeld, President of Global Marketing. After joining UMG, Frank and his employees will remain based in the Nashville headquarters of DigSin and DigMark. In his new role at UMG, Frank will be responsible for using data and analytics to maximize the performance of Universal Music's artists across all streaming platforms, evaluate the effectiveness of the company's global streaming marketing efforts and identify opportunities for artists on streaming platforms. He will also oversee the curation and management of Universal Music's global playlists, coordinate a cohesive worldwide playlist strategy across the company's labels and work with third-party playlist owners to promote artists. Frank founded DigSin as a singles-focused music company that leverages streaming promotion to foster artist growth. He later founded DigMark to design and implement data-driven marketing campaigns. Before founding DigSin, Frank was Senior Vice President of Music Strategy for Viacom's CMT, where he used innovative multi-platform promotional strategies to help drive music video ratings to all-time highs.
