American Association For Cancer Research Announces Executive Changes

The American Association for Cancer Research welcomed Jose Baselga, MD, PhD, as president of the organization for 2015-2016. He was inaugurated during the Annual Business Meeting, held here during the AACR Annual Meeting 2015. Baselga, an internationally recognized physician-scientist whose research focuses on the clinical development of novel molecularly targeted agents for the treatment of cancer, particularly breast cancer, is physician-in-chief and chief medical officer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Prior to becoming physician-in-chief and chief medical officer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Baselga was the chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology and associate director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Additionally, Nancy E. Davidson, MD, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and UPMC Cancer Center, was inducted as president-elect, and Carlos L. Arteaga, MD, professor of medicine and cancer biology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, associate director for clinical research, director of the Center for Cancer Targeted Therapies, and director of the Breast Cancer Program at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, now serves as past-president.

American Association for Cancer Research Appoints Pam Ballinger as Senior Director of Meetings and Exhibits

American Association for Cancer Research appointed Pam Ballinger, CMP, as senior director of meetings and exhibits. In her role, Ballinger will oversee the planning and implementation of all meeting logistics for more than 25 AACR annual conferences and educational workshops, including the AACR Annual Meeting, which attracts more than 18,500 attendees, making it the world’s large scientific meeting in cancer research. Prior to joining the company, Ballinger served for 14 years as vice president of meeting services at Association Headquarters, an association management company for nonprofits in Mount Laurel, N.J., where she managed AHs largest meetings, including the American Transplant Congress and the joint annual meeting of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Society of Transplantation.

American Association for Cancer Research Announces Executive Appointments

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) welcomes Carlos L. Arteaga, M.D., as president of the organization for 2014-2015. Arteaga is professor of medicine and cancer biology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he holds the Donna S. Hall chair in breast cancer research. He serves as associate director for translational/clinical research; director of the Breast Cancer Program; director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Research Network (VICCRN); and director of Center for Cancer Targeted Therapies at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tenn. Additionally, Jose Baselga, M.D., Ph.D., physician-in-chief at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, was inducted as president-elect and Charles L. Sawyers, M.D., chair of the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, now serves as past-president.
