Aditya Birla Reportedly Mulls IPO After Merging Carbon Black Units

Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt Ltd. is reportedly planning to merge all its carbon black units and may sell shares in the combined company, said two people familiar with the matter. The process of combining the businesses will be held at SKI Carbon Black (India) Pvt, the people said. The new entity may sell shares in an initial public offering (IPO) as early as next year, the person said. Columbian Chemicals Company will also be merged with SKI, one person said. The other companies which will be merged could reportedly be Alexandria Carbon Black Co SAE, Hi-Tech Carbon Pvt. Limited, Thai Carbon Black Public Co., Ltd. and Liaoning Birla Carbon Black Co., Ltd. The Times of India reported that Aditya Birla’s spokeswoman, Pragnya Ram declined to comment on the company's plan to combine carbon black units. Thai Carbon Black fell 2.8% to THB 26.5 and Aditya Birla Nuvo dropped 2.1% to INR 941.45 on March 9, 2013.
