Arkansas State University Announces Executive Changes

Arkansas State University announced the promotion of Julie Bates to executive vice president and Brad Phelps to university counsel in the system office. Bates has served as vice president for finance since 2011. Phelps succeeds Lucinda McDaniel of Jonesboro, who is retiring Dec. 31, 2014 after six years of service to the ASU System. Both appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2015. Phelps joined the ASU System in November after serving in various roles in the attorney general's office since 2003. He had served as Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's chief deputy since April 2010.

Mid-South Community College May Buy Arkansas State University

Mid-South Community College is looking to buy Arkansas State University. Board of Trustees at Mid-South Community College in West Memphis has agreed to discuss a possible merger. Mary Meux Toney, Chairman of Board of Mid-South Community College said a merger could help the college do more for the city, county and region. Glen Fenter, Founder of Mid-South Community College said that Mid-South Community College would retain autonomy if a merger occurs and name of the college would likely become Arkansas State University Mid-South.
