National Association of Chain Drug Stores Appoints Deepti A. Loharikar as Director, Federal and State Public Policy

National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced the hiring of Deepti A. Loharikar as director, federal and state public policy. Loharikar joined NACDS on May 11, 2015. She will report to Kevin Nicholson, vice president, public affairs and regulatory affairs. In her role at NACDS, Loharikar will provide policy expertise on pharmacy issues at the state and federal levels. She will serve as the public policy expert on drug and patient safety, Internet pharmacies, consumer drug safety initiatives and related issues, providing policy analysis on proposed and enacted legislation and regulations. Loharikar will also prepare and deliver testimony and regulatory comments, and develop other advocacy materials in support of key issues that impact chain pharmacy. Loharikar comes to NACDS from the Department of Health and Human Services where she oversaw the development and implementation of long-term strategies for the consumer-oriented and operated plan insurance program.
National Association of Chain Drug Stores Announces Executive Changes

National Association of Chain Drug Stores elected new officers, one new Executive Committee member and three new Board of Directors members for the coming year during its Annual Meeting. John Standley, chairman and chief executive officer of Rite Aid Corporation, was elected as the new NACDS chairman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Robert J. Narveson, president and chief executive officer of Thrifty White Pharmacy. In addition, Juan M. Ortiz, chief executive officer of Navarro Discount Pharmacies, was elected vice chairman, and Randall B. Edeker, chairman and chief executive officer of Hy-Vee Inc., was elected treasurer. In addition to the election of the new officers for one-year terms, the NACDS Board elected Randall Edeker as a new Executive Committee member. Three new Board of Directors members were also elected: Carmen R. Bauza, senior vice president and general merchandise manager, health and wellness for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Daniel Salemi, RPh, president of pharmacy division for New Albertsons Inc.; and J.K. Symancyk, president of Meijer, Inc.
