Arch Insurance Group Hires Shane McCaffrey as Senior Vice President to Head its Defense Base Act Insurance Program

Arch Insurance Group Inc. announced that Shane McCaffrey has been named Senior Vice President and will now head the development of Arch’s Defense Base Act and Foreign Casualty insurance for U.S. based multinationals. Mr. McCaffrey will be based at Arch’s New York City office and will report directly to Rich Stock, Executive Vice President of Arch Insurance Group, who heads Arch’s Construction, National Accounts Casualty and Excess Workers Compensation business units. Mr. McCaffrey is an accomplished insurance executive with nearly 30 years of Foreign Casualty underwriting experience. For the last 10 years, he has focused on Defense Base Act (DBA) coverages, which are a mandatory line of insurance for corporations that receive contracts from the U.S. government to perform work abroad. He will be tasked with providing firms of all sizes that do work abroad a seamless solution that ties together the DBA product with other related products, claims, and medical evacuation coverage capabilities. Mr. McCaffrey joins the organization from Starr Companies. Prior to that he was with American International Group Inc. where he oversaw a diverse portfolio of contractors working overseas for the American government and focused greatly on claims, cross selling, loss control, and underwriting protocols as it relates to DBA.

Arch Insurance Group Inc. Announces Management Changes

Arch Insurance Group announced that John Mentz has been appointed President, Arch Insurance Group, and will report directly to David McElroy, Chairman and CEO, Arch Worldwide Insurance Group. In this new role John assumes the direct management responsibility for all Arch U. S. underwriting divisions. John joined Arch in October of 2002 as Executive Vice President Construction. In his most recent role, in addition to Construction he had ultimate responsibility for National Accounts Casualty, Alternative Markets, High Excess comp and Lenders Products. John brings a wealth of experience to this role. Prior to Arch he served in a variety of senior management positions with Zurich and the St. Paul. John is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Michael Price has been appointed Executive Vice President, and Chief Underwriting Officer Arch Insurance U.S. reporting directly to Michael Murphy, Vice Chairman. Michael joined Arch in 2009 as Senior Vice President, Executive Assurance. Most recently, Michael was Senior Vice President, Operation for Arch US, where he was responsible for executive reporting, business process optimization, and business systems integration for Arch Insurance's US underwriting operations, reporting to Dennis Brand, Arch's chief administrative officer. Michael Murphy has been appointed Vice Chairman, Arch Insurance U. S. and will continue to report to David McElroy. As Vice Chairman Mike will continue in the role of Chief Underwriting Officer, Arch Worldwide Insurance Group and continue to assist on work involving other important strategic initiatives as well as continuing in his role as a member of the ACGL Executive Strategy Committee.

Arch Insurance Group Inc. announced a new, specialized management liability product in the U.S.: Arch Essential Side Asm Side A Lead Difference In Conditions ('DIC') & follow form excess liability insurance policy. In today's legal and economic environment, every company must protect the personal liability of its directors and officers. With increased regulatory scrutiny and a rise in instances of financial insolvency, a company's directors' and officers' personal assets are vulnerable to heightened exposure through escalating defense expenses, settlements and judgments. Arch Insurance Group's new Side A D&O product offers a concise and straight-forward policy form to address these exposures. Coverage highlights: Follow form Coverage; Broad exhaustion language; Follows important definitions of the Followed Policy. DIC Coverage: Drop down coverage available when underlying carrier denies or rescinds coverage, is not liable or fails to pay, fails to respond or is insolvent (subject to specific policy terms and conditions). Definition of Loss to include: Coverage for punitive, exemplary or multiple damages; Coverage for civil penalties; Broader coverage available in the most favorable jurisdiction; Limited and narrow exclusions; Fully severable personal conduct exclusions with carve backs for defense costs and independent directors; No Bodily Injury/Property Damage, ERISA, Pollution, Insured v. Insured or Prior Notice Exclusions; and capacity: $25 million.
