Epic Systems Hopes to Win an $11 Billion, 10-Year Contract with the U.S. Department of Defense

Along with competitors from other software vendors in the health care field, Epic Systems Corp. is hoping to win an $11 billion, 10-year contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to provide the updated software it needs. If the Verona-based health care information systems provider lands the contract, it would be a financial boon for the company as its revenue last year totaled $1.66 billion. The scope of the project includes revamping the department's existing health records management system, which includes 6 million veterans and 9 million active military members, so the data can be transferred between the military and outside health systems.
