The University of Kansas Hospital and KVC Health Systems are entering into a partnership to cooperate on adult psychiatric care in Wyandotte County, effective April 1. As a first step, the KVC Prairie Ridge Hospital adult psychiatric beds at 4300 Brenner Drive in Kansas City, Kan. will become part of The University of Kansas Hospital. Its new name will reflect the partnership: The University of Kansas Hospital – Adult Services at KVC Prairie Ridge. KVC will continue to manage the adult services and provide ancillary services. Additionally, KVC will continue to provide child and adolescent psychiatric treatment separate from this partnership. Services at the hospital's adult psychiatric inpatient unit on the main campus will not be changed by today's announcement. Both entities say they will work together to improve access to short-term mental health inpatient services in Wyandotte County. This exciting partnership is a first step in a longer-term vision for psychiatric services for adults in Wyandotte County.

Rehabilitation Hospital of Overland Park, at 5100 Indian Creek Parkway, will partner with The University of Kansas Hospital to provide services for patients locally and throughout the Midwest. The joint venture will provide additional capacity for rehab patients from The University of Kansas Hospital, and will connect to the Overland Park facility's Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, the only one of its kind in the metropolitan area. The patient care programs at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Overland Park will be directed by The University of Kansas Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians.
