The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has announced the appointment of five companies to its most recent framework for the design and build of up to £250 million worth of MOD construction projects in Scotland. Under the next generation estate contracts (NGEC) programme, DIO has awarded contracts for the Framework for Capital Works Projects in Scotland, delivering construction works each valued at up to £12 million to Henry Brothers (Magherafelt) Ltd, Interserve Construction Ltd, Kier Graham Defence (a Joint Venture between Kier Construction Ltd. and John Graham Construction Ltd), Lend Lease Construction (EMEA) Ltd. and Miller Construction (UK) Ltd. The framework is estimated to be worth between £100 million and £250 million and will operate for an initial four-year period, with the option to extend by up to a further three years. When project requirements are identified as suitable for delivery through the framework, the five companies will be invited to engage in ‘mini-competitions’, tendering for design & build solutions. The initial construction projects that are likely to be delivered through the Scotland Framework include works at a variety of locations in support of the programmes for Army Basing and for Future Reserves 2020.
Miller Construction (UK) Ltd. Reaches Financial Close on £50.8 Million Contracts for New School Campuses in the Highlands

Galliford Try plc announced that its Miller Construction business has reached financial close on a £35.4 million project to construct the new Inverness Royal Academy and a £15.4 million project to construct Noss Primary School in Wick. Miller Construction will be working on these projects for Hub North Scotland Limited. Inverness Royal Academy, which is due for completion by summer 2016, involves the construction of a new four-storey replacement school, sports pitches, an outdoor terraced teaching area, gardens, landscaping and a car park and bus drop-off area. The new Inverness Royal Academy campus will cater for around 1,500 pupils across the ages of 11-18. Noss Primary School involves the construction of a combined replacement primary school for both the North and Hillhead existing primary schools, a new nursery and enhanced facilities to support education for pupils with additional needs. The new school will accommodate close to 400 pupils over 14 classrooms. The project will be delivered in two phases with final completion due in spring 2016.

Defence Infrastructure Organisation has appointed 5 companies for the design and build of up to 400 million worth of construction projects across the UK defence estate. Contracts have been awarded for the National Capital Works Framework - delivering projects each valued at up to 50 million - to: Balfour Beatty Group Ltd, Carillion UK Construction, Kier Graham Defence Limited, iller Construction (UK) Ltd, and Wates Construction Ltd. This is the second Next Generation Estate Contracts (NGEC) Capital Works Framework to be awarded during the last month. It follows the signing of the East Midlands and Eastern England Regional Framework contract in November 2013. Capital Works Frameworks provide a means for DIO to let contracts for construction projects without going to full-scale tender. They allow for mini-competitions between shortlisted bidders for individual projects. In total there will be 7 Capital Works Frameworks, which comprise of 6 regional and 1 national framework. The national framework will operate alongside the regional frameworks and can be utilised at any defence site across the UK. It allows for the delivery of a diverse range of high-value, technically-complex construction projects, as well as for projects that need to be delivered across regional boundaries. Each individual project will be valued up to 50 million. The total value of the framework is up to 400 million over an initial 4-year period, with the option to extend by up to a further 3 years.
