Organovo Holdings announced exclusive licensing deal with University of Queensland for intellectual property owned by the university for growing kidney tissue. Under the terms of the agreement, Organovo will gain worldwide development and commercialization rights for in vitro applications such as kidney disease modeling, nephrotoxicity screening and discovery of compounds which may improve renal function in patients with genetic kidney disease. In addition to an upfront technology access fee, the university is also eligible to receive milestone and royalty payments.

First Solar, Inc. and UQ Launch New Solar Research Facility in Queensland, Australia

First Solar and UQ have launched a new solar photovoltaic systems research facility at the University of Queensland's Gatton campus in Australia. The 3.275 megawatt Gatton Solar Research Facility comprises more than 37,000 thin-film photovoltaic panels, mounted on the campus's 10ha former airstrip. The advanced technology photovoltaic (PV) modules from First Solar will produce enough clean energy to power more than 450 average Queensland homes and will displace the equivalent of 5600 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
