In the case of Simon Davies, the appeal of a top in-house job at Lloyds Banking Group did the trick. Davies is cutting his term short by a year to take on the newly created role of chief people, legal and strategy officer, which will see him in charge of the bank's HR, legal and strategy functions and will grant him a place on the firm's executive committee. He steps in to lead the bank's legal function, with recently-appointed general counsel Kate Cheetham reporting in to him.
