Capital Power Corp., Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. and Pattern Energy Group LP have begun commercial operations of the 270-MW K2 wind power facility in township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Ontario. The project, which has been brought online after 18 months of construction, consists of 140 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines. The companies had completed an expanded agreement with Siemens AG subsidiary Siemens Energy Inc. to supply the turbines for the facility in September 2011. The components of the facility were manufactured in Ontario. Power produced by the project will be sold to Independent Electricity System Operator under a 20-year power purchase agreement. Pattern Energy Group Inc. has agreed to acquire one-third of the project from its affiliate Pattern Energy Group LP. Consideration for the acquisition will be $128 million plus an assumed debt of about $218 million.
Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. and Pattern Energy Group to Start Construction of North Kent Wind Project by the End of 2016

Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator signed a 20-year agreement to purchase electricity from a planned 100-MW wind power project. The North Kent wind project, which is located in the regional municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ontario, is being jointly developed by Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. and Pattern Energy Group LP, or Pattern Development. Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2016 and the project is expected to be completed at the end of 2017. Following the PPA, Pattern Energy Group Inc. added the North Kent wind project to its list of identified right of first offer projects from Pattern Development. It expects to acquire an owned interest of 43 MW in the project. The addition of North Kent will increase Pattern Energy's ROFO list to nine projects with a total owned capacity of 930 MW. The list of identified ROFO projects represents a portion of Pattern Development's 4,500 MW pipeline of development projects, all of which are subject to Pattern Energy's right of first offer.
Pattern Energy Group LP Signs Joint Venture Agreement with CEMEX Energia

Pattern Energy Group LP announced it has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with CEMEX Energia. The CEMEX Energia/Pattern Development JV envisions advancing development opportunities and acquiring projects from third parties in the early to mid-stages of their development process. The Joint Venture expects to build a portfolio of at least 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects over the next five years.
