Religare Reportedly In Talks To Sell Its Minority Stake
Apr 1 14
Religare Health Insurance Co. Ltd is reportedly in talks with domestic and global private equity (PE) firms to sell its minority stake. Religare Health initiated stake sale talks to raise capital, according to three people, including two directly involved with the transaction. "The transaction includes raising of about INR 20 million in lieu of a minority stake," one of the two people directly involved in the negotiations said. "The talks have just begun and the final contours of the deal are yet to emerge. It's a PE deal and the Religare Health could raise capital from both domestic and global investors. "If any of the foreign funds buy a stake in the Religare Health it should not be less than 26%. But since Religare Health Insurance is willing to sell more than 26% stake, domestic funds too have been approached,” second person said. Religare Health is in talks with global investors including TPG Capital, L.P., LeapFrog Investments and General Atlantic LLC among others, said the third person. A spokesperson of LeapFrog said, “We never comment on speculation." According to Mint, Sandeep Naik, Managing Director of General Atlantic declined comment. TPG Capital could not be immediately reached for comment. A spokesperson of Religare said, "The information is incorrect and baseless."
