IPRO Wins Contract to Provide Support for Small Practices in CMS Quality Payment Program

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded a contract to IPRO to help small practices in New York, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia prepare for and participate in the new Quality Payment Program, established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). This technical assistance, authorized and funded under MACRA, brings direct support to an estimated 27,000 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinicians in small practices with 15 or fewer clinicians, including small practices in rural locations, health professional shortage areas, and medically underserved areas across the country. The direct technical assistance is available immediately, free to all MIPS eligible clinicians, and will deliver support for up to a five-year period. IPRO will provide customized technical assistance to MIPS eligible clinicians, which may include, but is not limited to, the following: Conveying the MIPS expectations and timelines; Explaining the MIPS feedback report; Creating a MIPS-score improvement plan; Evaluating practice readiness for joining an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM); Assessing and optimizing Health Information Technology; Supporting change management and strategic planning; Developing and disseminating education and training materials and Enabling peer-to-peer learning and local partnerships.

IPRO Wins Renewal of Key NY Hospital Work Hours Contract

IPRO has won renewal of an important New York contract that oversees hospitals' compliance with critical physician-in-training work hour requirements. The contract with the New York State Department of Health—which IPRO has held since the compliance program's inception in 2001 - involves unannounced site visits, surveys, interviews and responsibility for complaint investigations at 115 teaching hospitals across the state. At issue is compliance with work rules that include limiting post-graduate physicians-in-training to a maximum of 80 hours on duty per week (averaged over four weeks), with mandatory weekly time-off requirements and rest time between duty periods, as well as requirements that residents receive in-person supervision by senior physicians.

IPRO Wins Four Regional Dialysis Quality Improvement Contracts

IPRO has won four regional End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network quality improvement contracts to support dialysis patients, families and providers in 13 states across the U.S. IPRO will be responsible for Network 1 (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts); Network 2 (New York); Network 6 (North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia); and Network 9 (Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky). IPRO was the incumbent ESRD Network contractor in New England and New York but is a first-time awardee in Networks 6 and 9. A nationally recognized not-for-profit currently operating in 31 states and territories, IPRO offers a wide range of consulting services including quality improvement and assessment activities; utilization review; independent review of patient appeals; data collection, analysis and validation; anti-fraud and abuse analytics and online performance reporting for government agencies, managed care organizations and private sector clients. In addition, IPRO operates the WhyNotTheBest website, a comprehensive quality improvement resource that evaluates the performance of 5,686 acute care hospitals in the U.S.
