Florida Department Of Transportation and Waze Enter into Traffic Data Sharing Partnership

Florida Department Of Transportation in the US has entered into a data sharing partnership with the navigation app Waze to provide motorists with up-to-date traffic information. The new partnership will see FDoT and Waze non-exclusively cross-license their traffic data to each other, in order to improve their ability to deliver required traffic information. Under the deal, Waze will provide FDoT with access to its real-time data to manage roadways and operations, as well as traffic incident notification services, while the department will credit Waze as the data source. With the new partnership, Waze's data will help FDoT to offer enhanced traffic information on crashes, congestion and construction, while providing segment travel times. Motorists can receive updates on traffic and roadway conditions through Florida 511 by phone, app or website.

Facebook, Inc. (NasdaqGS:FB) is no longer in talks to acquire Waze Ltd. According to sources, the potential acquisition talks between Facebook and Waze ended due to conflicts over whether or not the Waze team which is predominantly based in Israel would move over to the United States, among other reasons. The representatives of both Facebook and Waze declined to comment to AllThingsD.
