Cincinnati State Technical and Community College Eliminating Dozens of Positions as it Anticipates Lower Enrollment in the Coming Academic Year
Jul 8 16
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is eliminating dozens of positions as it anticipates lower enrollment in the coming academic year. The community college is cutting 33 positions in its fiscal year 2017 budget. The college cut $4.2 million from its budget for fiscal 2017. The job cuts make up $2.2 million. The budget cuts were necessitated because in conjunction with falling enrollment Cincinnati State is freezing tuition for the third academic year in a row. Of the 33 positions cut, 12 were administrative, 12 were faculty and nine were support staff.
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College Appoints Monica J. Posey as President
Jun 14 16
After serving as interim president for past eight months following the departure of Dr. O'dell Owens, Monica J. Posey was named the first African American female president of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. The school's Board of Trustees announced that Posey is the first president hired from within the organization since the school expanded to become a community and technical college in 1994, as well as the first internal hire since its first president. Posey joined Cincinnati State in 1992 and has served as assistant dean, director of institutional research and planning, and academic vice president and provost. Posey worked at the University of Cincinnati as assistant director of career development before leaving her alma mater. She graduated from UC with an Ed.D. in Educational Foundations in 1999. The trustees noted in the release that Posey was responsible for establishing bachelor's degree pathway agreements with the major area universities in the area. Posey was named interim president after Owens abruptly quit last September. The former Hamilton County coroner and doctor at Harvard Medical School and University of Cincinnati Medical center resigned after clashes with the Board of Trustees.
