Murdoch University Appoints Romy Lawson as Deputy Vice Chancellor – Education

Professor Romy Lawson has been appointed by Murdoch University for the key position of Deputy Vice Chancellor – Education. The Deputy Vice Chancellor – Education will lead the University’s academic mission with respect to learning and teaching, curriculum development and student experience. Professor Lawson has been actively involved in teaching and learning development in higher education for over 20 years in both the UK and Australia. She is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) at Edith Cowan University, and prior to accepting this role she was Director of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum at the University of Wollongong where she led a large and very active team in areas including strategic curriculum development, technology enhanced learning and learning development.
Murdoch University Announces Executive Changes

Murdoch University announced that professor Eeva Leinonen will take up the role in 2016, replacing Professor Andrew Taggart who was acting in the role after vice-chancellor Richard Higgott resigned in October last year. Mr. Higgott was one of at least five senior staff investigated by the Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC). The university senate referred Mr. Higgott for investigation for suspected misconduct last year. Mr. Higgott was initially suspended on full pay once the allegations came to light, but resigned shortly after, saying he wished to pursue a writing program.
Sarepta Therapeutics Announces Collaborative Research Agreement with Murdoch University Researchers Steve Wilton and Sue Fletcher

Sarepta Therapeutics announced a four year collaborative research agreement to establish the Sarepta Translational Laboratory with Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia. The Laboratory, led by Murdoch University professors Steve Wilton, Ph.D. and Sue Fletcher, Ph.D., will explore the applicability of the Company's phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomer (PMO) technology for disease targets beyond Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), such as cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy. The agreement provides the Murdoch University researchers with access to Sarepta's PMO platform technology, as well as additional funding for researchers and materials. The initial project for the collaboration is anticipated to target multiple sclerosis. As part of the collaborative agreement, Sarepta will have exclusive rights to license technology and/or products resulting from the research projects.
