Asia Freight Rail Reportedly Targets KTMB Cargo Business

Asia Freight Rail Sdn Bhd aims to put in a bid to take over the cargo business of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). Asia Freight was planning to submit the necessary documents to the Public Land Transport Commission (SPAD) soon to obtain a rail licence, said sources. With the licence, it is understood that Asia Freight plans to operate freight services in Malaysia and generate cargo business from Thailand and its neighbours. "Once that gets going, the company will then put in a bid to take over KTMB's cargo business," said people close to the company.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd Introduces 12 New Services to Electric Train Service

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd has introduced 12 new services to its Electric Train Service (ETS) with an aim to attract two million passengers this year. The new ETS would be able to accommodate 13,000 passengers a day compared with 6,000 passengers last year. The 12 new ETS services are nine gold-class services for journeys to Ipoh and Butterworth, as well as three new platinum-class services for journeys to Butterworth and Padang Besar, Perlis.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad Enters into Joint Venture Agreement with MMC Corp Bhd

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has entered into a shareholders agreement with MMC Corp. Bhd to form a joint venture (JV) company known as KTMB MMC Cargo Sdn Bhd. KTMB will hold 51% equity interest in KTMB MMC Cargo and the rest by MMC. KTMB and MMC will subsequently undertake the business of rail freight transport and related businesses in the rail cargo sector. KTMB MMC Cargo would also be able to utilise the technical and operational knowledge from KTMB and MMC. It is expected that KTMB MMC Cargo will provide efficient and reliable Rail ITT services where the said services will be synchronised with the arrival and departures of vessels at the relevant ports.
