As Director, Dr. Scott will also develop and advance an overarching strategy for the new First-Year Experience Programme. As part of this new role Dr. Scott will continue his close association with the Locals Programme, now formally overseeing the initiative and supervising its staff.

The University of Otago has announced the appointment of Simon Chu as its director, international. Mr. Chu moves into the role from his current position as a Project Manager in the University's International Office. Mr. Chu will report directly to Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) Professor Helen Nicholson. In his Director's role Mr. Chu will be responsible for advancing the University's global visibility and reputation and ensuring that Otago is a leading destination for international students. He has a strong background in international education through his work as Academic Dean of the University of Otago Language Centre and Foundation Year from 2002 to 2013.
University of Otago Appoints Helen Nicholson as Deputy Vice-Chancellor

University of Otago announced that it has appointed Professor Helen Nicholson as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement). This is a new role that will oversee a newly created Division of External Engagement. The Division comprises Marketing & Communications, International Division, and Development & Alumni Relations. The decision to bring these areas into this single Division is in line with the strategic direction of the University to focus on strong external engagement. Professor Nicholson brings a background of academic leadership as well as biomedical and health sciences expertise to the role. She moved to the University of Otago in 2000 to become Professor of Anatomy and subsequently became head of the Department of Anatomy. In 2007 she was appointed Dean of the Otago School of Medical Sciences and in 2011 was the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) for six months. Professor Nicholson was appointed to the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) in February 2014. Harlene Helen has been responsible for the overall strategic leadership and academic development of several key departments and the International Division. She will now lead External Engagement initiatives at a time of great importance.
