University of Otago Appoints Helen Nicholson as Deputy Vice-Chancellor
Jun 13 15
University of Otago announced that it has appointed Professor Helen Nicholson as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement). This is a new role that will oversee a newly created Division of External Engagement. The Division comprises Marketing & Communications, International Division, and Development & Alumni Relations. The decision to bring these areas into this single Division is in line with the strategic direction of the University to focus on strong external engagement. Professor Nicholson brings a background of academic leadership as well as biomedical and health sciences expertise to the role. She moved to the University of Otago in 2000 to become Professor of Anatomy and subsequently became head of the Department of Anatomy. In 2007 she was appointed Dean of the Otago School of Medical Sciences and in 2011 was the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) for six months. Professor Nicholson was appointed to the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) in February 2014. Harlene Helen has been responsible for the overall strategic leadership and academic development of several key departments and the International Division. She will now lead External Engagement initiatives at a time of great importance.
