Long Island Association, Inc. Key Developments

Long Island Association Names Lawrence Waldman as Chairman

The Long Island Association’s board of directors tapped EisnerAmper Senior Adviser Lawrence Waldman to serve as chairman. Waldman, who also serves as a trustee of the State University of New York and is an adjunct professor of accounting at Hofstra University, succeeds former Bethpage Federal Credit Union CEO Kirk Kordeleski, who resigned from both his job and the LIA board in October. As chairman, Waldman will lead the LIA’s board, which includes more than 65 local business and government leaders from a variety of industries. Despite the large size, Waldman said the board is as proactive as they come.

Long Island Association Announces Board Changes

Patrick Nowakowski, the Long Island Rail Road's president, will serve on the 65-member board of the Long Island Association. He succeeds Helena Williams, who was fired by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in April after seven years of leading the LIRR. Williams' concerns over Metro-North railroad gaining access to Manhattan's Penn Station and the LIRR potentially losing track space there reportedly angered her superiors. She remains a paid consultant for the LIRR. LIA board members are not paid for their service.
