Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. - Eletrobras (BOVESPA:ELET6) made an attempt to raise at least BRL 7 billion in funds from the federal government in order to improve the financial situation of its distribution companies. These companies would then renew their concession contracts before being put up for sale. According to sources close to the matter, the renewal of contracts will change the sale date of Eletroacre, Amazonas Energia S.A., Centrais Elétricas de Rondônia SA- CERON, Companhia Energética de Alagoas, Companhia Energética do Piauí and Boa Vista Energia SA from end of 2016 to the end of 2017.

Amazonas Energia announced earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported LBITDA of BRL 407 million against EBITDA of BRL 226 million a year ago. Operating revenue was BRL 645.557 million against BRL 798.36 million a year ago. Operating loss before financial result was BRL 297.29 million against operating profit before financial result of BRL 242.10 million a year ago. Loss before income tax, social contribution, employee participation and management and the minority participation was BRL 817.4 million against loss of BRL 4.81 million a year ago. Net loss was BRL 817.4 million against profit of BRL 40.26 million a year ago. Net cash flow from operating activities was BRL 57.0 million against BRL 274.7 million a year ago. Acquisition of fixed assets was BRL 6.48 million against BRL 1.14 million a year ago. Acquisition of intangible assets was BRL 2.67 million against BRL 1.11 million a year ago.

Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. - Eletrobras (BOVESPA:ELET6) intends to sell 9 subsidiaries. The company reportedly plans to privatize the subsidiaries by the end of 2016. The companies need a capital injection of BRL 3.3 billion to meet minimum requirements of Aneel, Reuters reported, citing official documents. Eletrobras is selling majority stake in Celg-D and will raise BRL 1.4 billion. other entities to be sold are Boa Vista Energia SA, Companhia Energética De Roraima, Amazonas Energia S.A., Companhia de Eletricidade do Amapá, Companhia Energética do Piauí, Companhia Energética de Alagoas, Centrais Elétricas de Rondônia SA and Eletroacre.
