TOYOTA'S UBIQUITOUS AVANZA model a taxicab and family car standard has a new version that received cosmetic and significant mechanical updates. The latest model was introduced by Toyota Motor Philippines. The Avanza's mechanical revisions' list is led by new engines, both of which gasoline-fed and still displacing 1.3 and 1.5 liters, but now packing dual VVT-i instead of the intake side-only variable valve timing system of the previous mills. While gains in power outputs are marginal Toyota's dual VVT-i promises improved fuel consumption and emission ratings for both engines as high as Euro5, if specified for such a standard. The 1.3-liter unit makes 99hp and 132Nm while the 1.5-liter manages 103hp and 136Nm. TMP said both are quieter and smoother, too, and are bolted to either a four speed automatic or five-speed manual transmissions. Matched to the new engines are added safety kit; the Avanza is now fitted with ABS and electronic brake-force distribution, and Isofix child seat tethers. Designed by small-car specialist Daihatsu a Toyota subsidiary the Avanza first arrived in the Philippines in 2006. The latest version's prices range between PHP 667,000 and PHP 910,000.
