Guardian News & Media Appoints Laura Scarlett as Director of Data and Insight

Guardian News & Media announced the appointment of Laura Scarlett as director of data and insight. In this newly created role, Laura will lead on bringing together a number of data teams within the Guardian to create a new data and insight centre of excellence. Along with heading up this new team, she will also be responsible for the adoption and implementation of new data strategies to deliver insights to the business - building a deeper understanding and connection with readers - as well as using data to inform and adapt group strategy. In addition, Laura will also work with the Guardian's commercial team as they build out new propositions. Most recently Laura was interim data director at Time Out where she was developing their membership strategy and designing a CRM infrastructure. Prior to that she led the National Trust's programme to transform supporter loyalty, where she designed and implemented a data-driven customer marketing platform to help the organisation build deeper supporter relationships.

Guardian News & Media announced the appointment of Martin Belam as social and new formats editor. Martin will lead the creation of an integrated social strategy for the Guardian, heading up a team who will look to experiment with how the publication reaches additional audiences using new media, as well as developing the Guardian's journalism off-platform. Martin's team will work alongside the publication's community team who will focus on community management, user generated content and the development of the Guardian's citizen journalism platform, Guardian Witness. He was previously at the Guardian in a design role as head of user experience, and has also worked for Sony and the BBC.

In this newly created role of chief revenue officer, which brings together Guardian News & Media's advertising revenues, Jobs and Guardian Labs businesses, Hamish will have responsibility for building long-term, sustainable business relationships directly with clients and agencies across the globe. Hamish will report to David Pemsel and sit on the Guardian News & Media Executive Committee.
