Murco Petroleum Is In Talks To Sell Milford Haven Oil Refinery

Talks are coming to a head with a potential buyer for the Milford Haven oil refinery, according to Conservative MP Stephen Crabb. Murco Petroleum Limited announced it was entering into consultation with its workforce over the future of the refinery. Murco Petroleum's parent, Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE:MUR), had been in talks with numerous parties for more than three years to find a buyer for the refinery. Crabb has confirmed negotiations with one potential buyer are coming to a head. The Wales Office Minister said, "This is a crucial week for the refinery. There is a very active sales process in play with one potential buyer and negotiations seem to be coming to a head. But, as we have seen before, there can be no certainty in a challenging commercial matter. Both UK and Welsh governments are engaged at the highest level to do what they can to help achieve a successful outcome, but the buyer must ultimately be in a position to make an acceptable offer to Murphy. In recent weeks I have led the discussion with Welsh and UK ministers and remain in close contact with both the buyer and Murphy. Hundreds of good quality jobs depend on a successful sale and I remain determined to do everything I possibly can as local MP to see that refinery stay open." A spokesman for Murco said, "The process is ongoing and we are going to be providing an update in due course."
