SAIC-GM-Wuling to Invest $468 Million in NEV Plant

SAIC-GM-Wuling has announced that it will invest CNY 3 billion (USD 467.8 million) in a new energy vehicle (NEV) plant. The company held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant on 21 August in Liuzhou city. The NEV plant will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 cars. In addition, the automaker has begun production at its second plant in Liuzhou city, which will manufacture the JV's Baojun brand of cars. The plant has an annual production capacity of 400,000 vehicles.
SAIC GM Wuling Launches Hong Guang S1 MPV

SAIC GM Wuling has introduced the Hong Guang S1 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in China. Available in three trim levels, the vehicle is priced at between CNY 60,800 (USD 9,498) and CNY 69,800. Powered by a 1.5-litre engine that generates 82 kW of power and 147 Nm of torque, the vehicle offers a fuel economy of 15.1 kilometres per litre. The MPV is based on the popular Hong Guang S model but features larger dimensions and a longer wheelbase. The Hong Guang S1 is 100 mm longer and 40 mm wider than the Hong Guang S and measures 4,500 mm in length, 1,721 mm in width, and 1,730 mm in height. In addition, its wheelbase has been extended 10 mm to 2,720 mm. The automaker claims that the model's centre of gravity has been lowered by 40 mm as compared to the Hong Guang S. SAIC GM Wuling is also offering electric power steering (EPS) as standard equipment with the model.
