Topaz Energy is laying off almost all its depot-based staff north of the border. It employs around 1,500 across the island and around 40 at five depots in the north. The company confirmed that the company was in the process of centralising a number of back office and sales functions in its local fuels home heating business.

Businessman Denis O’Brien has also been appointed a non-executive director at the firm along with Sean Corkery, chairman and CEO of SiteServ, which Mr. O'Brien bought last year. Lucy Gaffney, who is chairperson of Mr. O’Brien’s Communicorp Group, and Emmet O’Neill; co-founder of Smiles Dental make up the six new appointments.

Topaz Energy Group announced earnings results for the year 2013. for the year, profits were rose by 43% to EUR 27.3 million. Total revenues were EUR 3.173 billion - up 8% on the prior year and operating profits of EUR 296,000 compared to an operating loss of EUE 757,000 in 2012. Net debt fell by EUR 18.9 million during the year and on 1 October 2013.
