Sir David and Frederick Barclay, owners of Telegraph Media Group Limited, have rebuffed two expressions of interest from potential buyers in the past six months and insist that they have no plans to sell. The Financial Times has learnt that Aidan Barclay, chairman of parent company Telegraph Media Group (TMG) and son of Sir David, met the owner of London’s Evening Standard, Evgeny Lebedev, earlier this year, where the Russian entrepreneur raised his interest in buying the Telegraph. “It was raised during the course of the meeting,” said the source. “Aidan made it very clear that the Telegraph was not for sale.” According to a source close to the Barclay brothers, the meeting was requested by Lebedev, who had given no prior indication he wished to discuss a possible move to acquire the paper.
