The Brazilian Federal government and the state government of Goias are in discussions with state-owned energy firm Eletrosul Centrais Elétricas S.A. are considering strategic alternatives for its distribution subsidiary Celg Distribuição S.A. after the privatisation auction failed to receive any bids. Despite these discussions taking place, the government is, however, confident that the auction will be successful, with the criticisms over the price of the company being dismissed as part of negotiation strategy by the interested parties. One alternative is lowering the price of the company and launching a new auction process other is to inject new resources into the firm to improve its economic and financial index. A number of companies, such as Equatorial Energia and Energisa, have ruled out their participation in the auction but others, such as CPFL Energia S.A. (BOVESPA: CPFE3), have criticised the high price but not yet ruled out participation. The State Grid and Enel have actively declared an interest in Celg D. Interested parties are due to present documents on 16 August 2016, with the proposals to be opened on 19 August 2016.
