NTUC FairPrice Launches New Retail Format for Budget-Conscious Consumers

NTUC FairPrice Co-Operative has launched a new retail format, FairPrice Shop, to serve the needs of budget-conscious consumers. The store will feature a more focused range of products that offer greater value, including a new exclusive range of house brand produce, and will be located primarily within mature estates for greater accessibility and convenience to budget-conscious residents. FairPrice Shop will provide a more focused range of essentials that provide greater value including housebrand products, Every Day Low Price (EDLP) and Yellow Dot items, which will make up about half the product mix in the store. A new housebrand range of produce, called 'Value Fresh', will also be launched and available exclusively at FairPrice Shop. The new range of 30 products comprising fresh vegetables are priced at 5% to 10% lower than FairPrice's existing range of housebrand produce, 'Pasar'. The format, which is characterised by its no-frills display and layout, will also showcase and communicate more prominently various ways shoppers can save at the store and stretch their dollar. To provide greater convenience and accessibility, the stores will be strategically located in matured HDB estates where there is a higher oncentration of one to three-room HDB flats. The first two FairPrice Shops are currently located at Eunos and Circuit Road.
NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd Launches Enabled Store in Singapore

NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd. has launched its first enabled store located at 20 Lengkok Bahru in Singapore. The store is designed to meet the needs of Singapore's rapidly ageing population and support persons with disabilities to live actively and independently. The store is located within the Enabling Village, an integrated community space for people with disabilities. Physical characteristics of the store include call buttons located at the entrance and along store aisles to offer assistance, magnifying glasses at every aisle to help customers read product labels, and merchandise shelves customised to ideal heights for easy reach. The store also offers a more extensive range of supplements, products with the Healthier Choice Symbol (HCS) and assistive products such as walking aids. Staff at the store have also undergone a specially developed training programme, jointly developed by NTUC LearningHub, Centre for Seniors and the Dr. Oon Chiew Seng Trust, to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to serve senior customers better. The training programme aims to help service staff understand and anticipate the needs of senior customers, recognise senior related ailments such as dementia, as well as empathise with the difficulties that seniors may encounter so they can communicate and respond better to their needs. FairPrice is the first organisation to send employees for the course, training 100 frontline staff to date. Over 500 FairPrice frontline staff will also undergo this training programme in the next 2 years. Existing initiatives to help FairPrice customers stretch their dollar will also be available at this store including the Big Value Bag programme which offers a 10% discount on over 1,000 FairPrice house brand products.

NTUC Fairprice Co-operative has commenced the sale of frozen pork from Sarawak, Malaysia, following the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority's, approval of Sarawak as a source of frozen pork in December 2014. The pork is available in eight types of cuts, including lean, minced, fillet and ribs.
