TOT Public Company Limited Reportedly Mulls Partners

TOT Public Company Limited reportedly in talks to seeks partners. Five telecommunication companies have already submitted proposals to become the state agency's business partners including Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (SET:ADVANC), True Corporation Public Company Limited (SET:TRUE), Total Access Communication Public Company Limited (SET:DTAC), Loxley Public Company Limited (SET:LOXLEY), Samart Corporation Public Company Limited (SET:SAMART) and Mobile LTE. The TOT board recently approved the hiring of a consultant to help it select possible strategic partners, The Nation reports. A TOT source said “the consultant would help the agency evaluate its proposals. Financial aspects will be taken into account, of the potential partners and TOT itself, as well as legal aspects.” The consultant is expected to take four months to complete the study. The TOT board recently disclosed that SoftBank Corp. (TSE:9984) from Japan had also shown an interest in becoming a strategic partner, but it declined to elaborate.

TOT To Offload All Shares In 11 Joint Ventures

TOT Public Company Limited is streamlining its organization and will divest all of its shares in 11 joint ventures as part of its restructuring plan to improve efficiency and performance and focus on its core businesses. TOT chairman General Surapong Suwana-adth said TOT was considering selling off the JV companies step by step to focus on the core businesses. These include telecom infrastructure, telecommunications towers, international gateways and submarine cables, mobile phone service, fixed telephone and broadband Internet, and information-technology services. Thanwa Laohasiriwong , the agency's acting president, said the plan was also part of the policy of the State Enterprises Policy Commission or "superboard" to turn around the fortunes of TOT. "As a national telecom operator, we need to continue to invest in telecom infrastructure, so we have to convert the shares into cash for investment. But we will sell the shares at the appropriate price," Thanwa said. However, TOT has to submit the divestment plan to the Cabinet for approval.

TOT Presents Initiatives to Seek Private Partnerships

TOT Public Company Limited has formally unveiled initiatives to seek private partnerships for six core businesses in a strategic drive to solve its ailing financial status and revive business. Thanwa Laohasiriwong, Director of TOT's Board and President, said up to 10 telecom companies have expressed interest in entering partnerships with the six businesses. Four of the 10 are multinational companies, Telstar, SK Telecom, British Telecom and another big telecom player from China, Thanwa said.
