SK E&C Co. Ltd. Key Developments

SK Engineering & Construction Partners with Unit International S.A to Build, Operate 5 Power Plants in Iran

SK Engineering & Construction has partnered with Unit International S.A. for a multi trillion-won project to build and operate five new gas-fired power plants in Iran. SK E&C signed a deal with the Turkish firm in Istanbul in which the South Korean firm agreed to join Unit International's ongoing project to build and operate the new power plants in Iran. Following the agreement, SK E&C acquired a 30% stake in Unit International S.A. The new deal is said to cost roughly KRW 4.2 trillion ($3.7 billion). The project will involve Iran's large privately developed power plants as it is anticipated to have a combined generation capacity of 5,000 megawatts. SK E&C will most likely be in charge of the building process of the new plants. The joint operation is currently slated to build and operate gas-fired power plants across five locations in Iran including Saveh, Zahedan, Sufian, Qasr-e Shirin and Ahvaz. SK E&C said it plans to begin construction of 1,200-MW and 880-MW power plants in Saveh and Zahedan next January. The plants are expected to start operation in the latter half of 2020.

SK E&C Signs $3.2 Billion Deal for Goseong Hai Coal-Fired Power Plant in South Korea

SK Engineering and Construction signed a deal worth $3.23 billion with Goseong Green Power to construct coal-fired power plant in Goseong. SK E&C will develop two generating units at the 1,040 MW thermal power plant by applying top-notch technology. The efficiency of the Goseong Hai thermal power plant will be increased by 15% by implementing "ultra super critical" technology. This power plant will emit less pollutants like sulfur oxides and nitrogen, when compared to other coal-fired power plants. The power plant, which will be completed by 2021, will reduce the problem of power distribution in the country.

KBR Signs Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contract for Magnolia LNG Project

KBR, Inc. announced the signing of a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Magnolia LNG (MLNG) for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility at the Port of Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. KBR will lead the KSJV joint venture with SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea) for execution of the project. The EPC contract covers the detailed engineering, procurement and construction of four LNG production trains each with design capacity of 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), two 160,000 m3 full containment LNG storage tanks, LNG marine and ship loading facilities, and supporting infrastructure. The project will rely on innovative technology involving ammonia pre-cooling for the core liquefaction process, Optimized Single Mixed Refrigerant (OSMR)(R), developed by MLNG's parent company, LNG Limited, to achieve a lower cost, more efficient and more environmentally friendly plant. KSJV engineering and procurement services will commence immediately and subject to final regulatory approval, construction mobilization on the project is expected to begin the first quarter of 2016. Work on detailed design and early construction planning will proceed immediately under a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) with final release expected in 2016. As work is released under the contract, KBR will be booking revenue into backlog of unfilled orders for KBR's E&C Business Segment.
