Auchan Announces Earnings Results for the First Half of 2015
Aug 31 15
Auchan announced earnings results for the first half of 2015. For the first half, the company reported significantly lower first half 2015 profits due to heavy exceptional charges and continued sluggish activity in France. Income from continuing operations declined 53.3% to EUR 157 million, and operating income of EUR 326 million was 31.9% lower than during the first half last year.
Auchan to Build Meat Processing Plant in Russia
Aug 12 15
Auchan is about to launch the construction of a RUB 2.5 billion meat processing plant near the city of Tambov. This would allow the chain to control the quality of meat product that recently called into question by Russia's agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor. The plant with a capacity of 40,000 tons of meat per year will be located near the city of Tambov. The facility will process primarily cattle meat (23,000 tons), pork (15,000 tons) and lamb (2,000 tons). It will produce vacuum-sealed meat and semi-finished meat products. The investments are said to reach RUB 2.5 billion. The construction is slated for September, while the opening is expected in fourth quarter of 2016. The cooperation agreement was signed with regional authorities back in July.
Auchan Reports Earnings Results for the Full Year of 2014
Mar 9 15
Auchan reported earnings results for the full year of 2014. For the year, the company reported that its net profit fell by a quarter last year despite rising sales as its international expansion weighed on the bottom line of the France-based supermarket group. Net profit fell by 25.2% to EUR 574 million ($624 million). Meanwhile, sales stripped of taxes rose by 14.7% at constant exchange rates to EUR 53.4 billion, but this was boosted by the complete integration of Sun Art Retail Group in China into the accounts as well as other expansion. On a comparable store measure at constant exchange rates, sales dipped 1.0%. A similar effect could be seen in operating profit, which rose by 2.0% when measured at constant exchange rates to EUR 2.6 billion, but when measured by continuing activities fell by 11.6% to EUR 1.1 billion. Sales in its home market France slid 2.2%, which Auchan said was mostly due to a drop in prices, although the number of customers increased. The group now generates 63% of its sales abroad. The company also managed to reduce its net debt by nearly half to EUR 1.8 billion.
