The government of Slovenia is planning to privatize the soon to be merged Banka Celje d.d. and Abanka Vipa, d.d. The combined bank, to be called Abanka, is scheduled for sale by mid-2019 after the merger is completed.

Slovenia plans to merge state-owned Banka Celje d.d. and Abanka Vipa, d.d. over the coming year before selling them. The merger of Abanka Vipa and Banka Celje will create the third largest bank in the country, which will be sold in 2017 or 2018, Metod Dragonja said on the sidelines of a Slovenian-Chinese business conference. "The merger is a demanding process and could take about a year ... It could be completed by the end of next year," he added. The merger still needs to be approved by the European Commission.

Slovenia is seeking a buyer for a combined stake of 70.8% in Cinkarna Celje, d. d. (LJSE:CICG). The consortium selling the Cinkarna Celje stake consists of Nova Kreditna Banka Maribor d.d., Banka Celje d.d., KD Skladi druzba za upravljanje, d.o.o., Modre zavarovalnica , d. d., Nova Kreditna Banka Maribor d.d. and Alpen Invest, funds managment company, LLC. Non-binding offers should be submitted by November 14, 2014. During the second stage of the sale process, the selected bidders will be invited to meet the company’s management and to conduct a due diligence review before submitting binding offers. Slovenia has mandated Daiwa Corporate Advisory as a financial advisor in the sale.
