Government of Canada Chooses Allstream for 7-Year Multi-Million Dollar Contract

Allstream Inc. announced that The Government of Canada, through the work of Shared Services Canada (SSC), has selected the company as one of two suppliers for "GCNet WAN Services - Stream 1." SSC's GCNet WAN will provide IP data communications services to 43 federal government departments and agencies including the RCMP, National Defence, Canada Revenue Agency and Environment Canada. After a rigorous qualifying process that includes meeting current and future bandwidth, security and reliability requirements, Allstream was awarded the business earlier this year. The project was established to consolidate, modernize and streamline the Government's existing 50 wide area networks into a single network service for data and Internet access. Allstream was awarded an initial 1,000 circuits representing a little over 20 % of the total circuits covered by this project. Although not fully determined, the total value of the contract is expected to exceed $100 million, will last through 2022, and could extend to 2025. Implementation planning and preparation is well underway and the first circuits will be deployed later 2015.
MTS Announced Strategic Review Process’ Outcome

Manitoba Telecom Services, Inc. (TSX:MBT) (MTS) and its units, MTS Inc. and Allstream Inc. have announced the outcome of strategic review process. MTS indicated that as part of charting a new course a new strategic focus including creating a customer-first organization, growing revenue faster, and investing in the future, among others.
Allstream Inc. to Cut 400 Additional Jobs

Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. announced that it is reducing the workforce at its Allstream national division by 25%. The company says 100 employees have already left and a further 400 have been notified they'll be leaving the business in 2015 or 2016. Manitoba Telecom says it's also cutting Allstream's capital budget by 20% to 30% and reducing the parent company's dividend to shareholders. The cuts follow a sweeping strategic review launched in February by Jay Forbes, who became the president and CEO of the telecom company in January.
