Georgia-Pacific Files Lawsuit Against Aldi
Apr 17 15
Georgia-Pacific claims its Angel Soft toilet tissue is getting ripped off by Aldi. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Atlanta on April 16, Georgia-Pacific said the packaging of its Angel Soft toilet paper has been blatantly imitated by Aldi for Aldi's SoftTouch toilet paper, particularly the color of the label, images of clouds, a picture of a baby and the use of the word 'soft'. In its lawsuit, Georgia-Pacific reveals that over the past five years, its revenues from the sale of Angel Soft toilet tissue total more than $7 billion. The company said it has invested more than $175 million in advertising and promoting Angel Soft in just the past five years, including Disney sweepstakes, the Angels in Action volunteer program, and the Bath Moments promotion on America's Funniest Home Videos. Georgia-Pacific said Aldi is compounding the problem because Aldi's SoftTouch packaging carries the words 'Now with 15% more sheets than Angel Soft and Compare to Angel Soft Bath Tissue.
Aldi to Open a New Store in Llansamlet
Feb 6 15
Aldi given the green light to open a new store in Llansamlet. The company had submitted an application to Swansea Council almost a year ago, proposing a new store on Samlet Road, on Swansea Enterprise Park, which it said would create 20 full-time and 10 part-time jobs. The enterprise park is already served by a Tesco Extra, Asda and Farmfoods, while Morrisons has a store a couple of miles away at Morfa Shopping Park. Original plans for the £3.5 million supermarket proposed an internal area of 1,697sq metres, 116 parking spaces and good public transport links. Solar panels are planned on part of the south-facing roof, along with in-store CCTV. No-one from the company was available to comment when contacted by the Evening Post.
Aldi Inc. to Open Grocery Store in the Old Books-A-Million Space
Jan 3 15
Aldi Inc. has signed a lease to open a grocery store in the old Books-A-Million space on Hershberger Road. The global discount grocery chain filed a building permit with the city for $4,400 last week to demolish a portion of the current building and construct a new one. The Aldi will take up part of the space at Books-A-Million and the rest of the building, including the space where Rugged Wearhouse used to be, will also be renovated and leased to a new tenant. The company also plans to open at least four Richmond-area stores. Specific plans have not been released about the timeline of the Roanoke project or the size of the new location. Aldi stores average about 16,000 square feet, making them relatively small compared with other large grocery chains - a typical Kroger store, is about 60,000 square feet. They carry a limited variety of products - almost all Aldi house brands - and offer bargain prices on items such as fruits, vegetables, frozen products and wines. The stores are no-frills operations. The grocery is expected to take up a portion of the spot Books-A-Million formerly held at Crossroads Mall. The bookstore closed in April 2013 and the space has been vacant since then. The retail space connected to it used to house Rugged Wearhouse, which moved several months ago near Towne Square to make way for a new retailer.
