Association of American Colleges and Universities Announces Seven New Directors and New Slate of Officers for Board of Directors

At its recent Annual Meeting, the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) named seven new directors and elected a slate of new officers. Dr. James P. Collins, Virginia M. Ullman Professor of Natural History and Environment at Arizona State University, became Chair of the Board, taking over from Dr. Edward J. Ray, President of Oregon State University. Ray will continue to serve on AAC&U's Board Executive Committee as Past Chair. In addition to the appointment of James P. Collins, AAC&U members voted to appoint Elsa Nunez, President of Eastern Connecticut State University, as Vice Chair of the Board; Sean Decatur, President of Kenyon College, will continue in his three-year term as Treasurer of the Board. New directors were appointed to AAC&U's board during AAC&U's Annual Meeting on January 23, 2016.

The Board of Directors of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACandU) has chosen Dr. Lynn Pasquerella to become AACandU's 14th president. She will assume her new duties on July 1, 2016. Serving as president of Mount Holyoke since 2010, Pasquerella has led a robust strategic planning process and extensive outreach to local and regional communities as well as the worldwide network of Mount Holyoke alumnae. She has focused on access for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to a powerful, engaged and public-spirited liberal education. Prior to assuming her current role, Pasquerella spent 23 years in public higher education at the University of Rhode Island where she served as a professor of philosophy and held a range of administrative positions including department chair and dean of the Graduate School.

Association Of American Colleges And Universities announced the appointment of Dr. Kate McConnell as the new Senior Director for Research and Assessment. McConnell will begin this position on August 31, 2015, after serving in several capacities at Virginia Tech, including most recently as its inaugural Director of Assessment in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs. Prior to her work at Virginia Tech, she served as the Director of Planning and Institutional Research at Stonehill College. McConnell will work in AAC&U's Office of Quality, Curriculum, and Assessment overseeing various projects and serving as co-director of AAC&U's longstanding Institute on General Education and Assessment. McConnell will provide proactive intellectual and practical leadership for AAC&U's work on assessment for student liberal learning and research on student success. McConnell will also work on the growing family of projects that are part of AAC&U's Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education (VALUE) initiative.
