DreamHost Supercharges Virtual Private Servers

DreamHost has announced a dramatic overhaul of the hardware and software powering its Virtual Private Servers. Now starting at just $15 monthly, DreamHost's VPS offerings have ditched antiquated "spinning rust" in favor of lightning-fast Solid State Drives (SSDs) which, in lab testing, have shown to be twenty times faster than traditional SATA drives. The company's Virtual Private Servers now include 1GB of RAM and 30GB of SSD storage for as little as $15 per month-more than tripling the previous amount of included RAM-without a price increase. Resources can be scaled on-demand as users' needs grow to ensure they're never made to pay for a higher level of service than they actually need. DreamHost VPS users pay for exactly what they need, when they need it. This platform refresh also marks the end of Debian Linux on VPS instances at DreamHost. Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS is now the standard distribution included with all new DreamHost Virtual Private Servers. Finally, VPS users will now have access to a refreshed web-based management interface that lives within the DreamHost customer control panel. There's never any need to contact sales or support to perform upgrades or reboots-they're always just a few clicks away. The company's VPS platform refresh is the result of direct customer feedback and reflects what its passionate user community of entrepreneurs, developers, and content creators truly want out of a virtual private servers.

DreamHost Announces Expanded Beta of DreamCompute

DreamHost announced the impending expansion of the beta of its long-gestating OpenStack-based public cloud computing service, DreamCompute. DreamHost expands its private beta of its OpenStack-based public cloud, DreamCompute, on May 27th, offering full support for IPv6 and complete tenant network isolation. DreamCompute engineers will continue to refine and harden the service while testers kick the tires. n typical DreamHost fashion, DreamCompute is built on top of a solid open-source foundation of OpenStack, Ceph, and homegrown Layer 3 services. Additionally, DreamCompute leverages technology from various partners Cumulus Networks and VMware for advanced network functionality. With contributions to several projects and a program technical lead, DreamHost’s engineers have been among the most active contributors to the OpenStack project. With a Technical Committee member on staff and as a founding gold member of the OpenStack Foundation board, it’s also among the open source movement’s most fervent supporters. Utilizing six official programs, DreamCompute offers beta testers a familiar OpenStack experience. Anyone who’s run Devstack and logged into Horizon will feel right at home in the DreamCompute dashboard. Testers will also be able to use the well-known OpenStack clients to launch instances, create volumes, and more.
