Todd Park Joins New America Foundation to its Board of Directors

New America Foundation announced that former U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park to its board of directors. Park served as White House technology advisor based in Silicon Valley until January 2017, a role in which he focused on bringing top technology talent and best practices into government. Prior to this role, Park served from March 2012 to August 2014 as U.S. Chief Technology Officer in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

New America Foundation Appoints Tom Freston to its Board of Directors

New America Foundation announced the appointment of Tom Freston, principal at Firefly3 and former CEO and COO of Viacom, to its board of directors. Freston launched and managed such television networks as MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, and Comedy Central as well as oversaw Paramount Pictures during his 26 year tenure at MTV Networks and Viacom. He is a principal of Firefly3, an investment and consultancy firm which focuses on the media and entertainment industries. Freston also has deep ties to Afghanistan where he once ran a textile business. After 2005 he returned to advise Tolo TV, the first and now the largest television network in the country. He is on the board of Moby Media, the parent organization of Tolo.

New America Foundation Appoints Robert J. Abernethy to its Board of Directors

New America Foundation announced the appointment of Robert J. Abernethy to its board of directors. Mr. Abernethy is the chairman and founder of American Standard Development Company, and managing director of Metropolitan Investments. He spent 20 years in public service in California, as the Commissioner of California Transportation Commission and Los Angeles Telecommunications Commission, and as a member of the California State Board of Education, among other roles. He is also a member of the advisory council for the Johns Hopkins School of International Studies, and serves as vice-chairman of the Atlantic Council.
