Greater Cincinnati Foundation Hires Ellen Katz as New CEO to Replace Kathy Merchant

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has lured away a top executive from another Cincinnati-area nonprofit to replace its retiring CEO. Ellen Katz is the new chief executive for the GCF. She joins the organization from the Children's Home of Cincinnati where she was president and CEO since 2005. Katz takes over for Kathy Merchant who will retire in May after 18 years of leading the foundation. Under Merchant's leadership, GCF created new initiatives like Better Together Cincinnati, established Cincinnati as national leader in philanthropic innovation and made more than $700 million in grants on behalf of donors. In addition to her role at the Children's Home, which provides education programs and treatment services to area children, Katz is active in the Cincinnati community. She serves on the board of Bethesda Inc. and TriHealth.

Kathryn E. Merchant, who has served as President and CEO of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) since 1997, has announced that she will retire in June 2015, after more than 18 years.
