CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Names Jonathan Blum as Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs

Former Medicare Chief Jonathan Blum has joined CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield as its executive vice president of medical affairs. Blum, who joined CareFirst on Sept. 8, will oversee CareFirst's provider networks, care management programs, pharmacy operations and medical policies. Blum was second in command at the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under Marilyn Tavenner. He stepped down from the post as principal deputy administrator and director of CMS in May. President Obama appointed Blum to CMS in 2009.

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Appoints John O'brien as Vice President of Public Policy

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield named John O'Brien as vice president of public policy. O'Brien will represent CareFirst on federal and state government and regulatory matters related to the implementation of federal health reform. He will also help CareFirst complete the launch of a federally funded pilot program to expand its patient-centered medical home model to 25,000 beneficiaries in Maryland. O'Brien replaces David Grosso, who left the company in November 2012 after being elected to the Council of the District of Columbia.
