The YWCA of Minneapolis was founded in 1891 by a group of women pushing the boundaries of social acceptability: women working outside of the home. Since its beginning, the YWCA has been at the forefront of social change. The YWCA of Minneapolis is a non-profit organization that serves more than 25,000 people annually with hundreds of programs, classes and support groups. As part of a larger network of women's organizations in more than 70 countries, the YWCA strives to achieve racial and gender equity, economic independence of women, respect for diversity, and a vibrant and healthy community.
