Lebara Announces New Services Including OTT Video and Mobile Remittances at Partner Event in London

Lebara announced new services including OTT video and mobile remittances at a partner event in London. Lebara's new Play video service will target its traditional audience of immigrants and people of different ethnic backgrounds, offering over 3,000 movies and 150 channels in 13 languages. Subscriptions will cost GBP/EUR 9.99 per month, and users will be able to pick up watching a programme across devices. The company is also developing its own set-top box for the service, which will be offered for EUR 149 including a 12-month subscription. Lebara plans to roll out the video service gradually, in all markets where it operates. It will also be available in the 11 new markets where it earlier launch its OTT VoIP service Lebara Talk, and more markets are under consideration for additional launches. Telecompaper that the video service will be like Netflix, but targeted specifically at the ethnic community. Lebara Play should launch in the Netherlands by the end of June. The company also announced that it's working on an international remittance service for sending money by mobile phone. Unique is that customers will not need a credt card to load money; they can buy a top-up with cash and send money through their phone. The platform is still being fine-tuned, but is expected by the end of this year. At the event in London, Lebara also presented its new logo. Lebara counts 5.3 million customers in the countries where it operates as MVNO.
Lebara and Huawei Extend Collaboration to Deploy Next Generation Digital Charging

Lebara and Huawei have jointly announced that they will collaborate on a new online digital charging system. The agreement will see Huawei deliver and integrate the next generation Charging System to support Lebara's business ambitions and to provide a single sign-on process for new and existing Lebara services. Lebara's customers will benefit from a best-in-class integrated charging system, enabling flexible payments to access an array of innovative services covering entertainment, finance and communications, including the new Lebara Talk app.

Lebara announced the appointment of new management to help further its expansion. The new appointments include Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke as Deputy CEO, Dynshaw Italia as CFO, Manjot Mann as CEO Communication, Aditya Thakur as CEO Media, Beatrice Farina as Chief Brand Officer, Andrew Lacy as Chief Product Officer, Richard Bastin as Chief Technical Officer and Halimah Abdullah as Customer Service Director. Lebara Group has also established a board of directors, and the first non-executive appointment is Gaby Abdelnour, a former Chairman and CEO of JP Morgan Asia Pacific. Additionally, Evert Jaap Lugt, former founder and CEO of Nimbuzz, has been appointed advisor to the board and management team.
