Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. Key Developments

Comprehensive Health Services Wins U.S. National Park Service Contract

Comprehensive Health Services, Incorporated (CHSi) was awarded a five-year contract following a rebid by the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) to conduct comprehensive medical exams, including fitness-for-duty and independent medical evaluations, in all 50 states and U.S. territories. CHSi held the contract for the previous five-year term, with the expiring award issued on July 20, 2009. Pre-placement and incumbent medical exams will be provided for NPS staff involved in arduous duty occupations, including law enforcement, scuba divers and structural firefighters. As stated in the contract, the objective of the program is to determine if NPS staff or an NPS job applicant who perform arduous duties have any medical condition(s) that would prevent them from performing, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the position without posing significant risk to themselves or others. It must be determined if the examinee’s health status, or if applicable, medical condition(s), will be aggravated and/or worsened by the physical demands and/or working conditions of the job or work conditions. Under the program, the NPS applies the medical qualifications to all positions in which arduous duties are assigned, whether as a primary or collateral duty, and whether the position is career, term or temporary. Law enforcement officers who perform collateral duty as wildland firefighters are included in the program as part of the contract scope. The contract is managed by the Law Enforcement, Security, and Emergency Services Division (LESES) under the Visitor and Resource Protection Associateship (VRP) at NPS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Comprehensive Health Services Wins $18 Million Contract

Comprehensive Health Services, Incorporated was recently awarded a five-year (Base plus 4 option years), $18 million contract by the U.S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Land Management. CHSI will provide medical qualification determination services to arduous duty wildland firefighters and communications tower climbers to ensure they are medically qualified to serve in an arduous duty position. CHSi will provide medical services in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The contract provides medical services for the four federal bureaus within the Department of Interior (DOI) that employ positions designated for arduous duty necessitating medical qualification determinations as a condition of employment, including, but not limited to, arduous duty wildland firefighters and communications tower climbers. The four bureaus include the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Park Service (NPS).
