House of Fraser Reportedly Plans Advisor For IPO
Jan 3 14
House of Fraser, Ltd. is reportedly looking to appoint HSBC and Numis to advise it on a possible £350 million initial public offering. House of Frase has until the end of January 2014 to hammer out a transaction with Societe Anonyme des Galeries Lafayette. House of Fraser is pressing ahead with a dual track process and a float could take place later 2014 if it does not reach an agreement to be sold to the family-owned French retailer over the next few weeks. House of Fraser was in exclusive talks with Galeries Lafayette, with chairman Don McCarthy thought to be looking for a price of about £450 million for the chain. Rothschild is overseeing the possible listing, and House of Fraser held a beauty parade for possible advisers before Christmas. HSBC has been a long-term lender to House of Fraser while Numis advises a number of mid-market retailers. According to Financial times, House of Fraser, Ltd. declined to comment. John King, Chief Executive, on January 2, 2014 dismissed suggestions that the numbers may have been polished to drum up enthusiasm for a possible IPO or takeover bid. “I don’t know how you can dress up nine-week numbers,” said King, who also declined to comment on any sale of float. “We are not dressing it up.”
