The American Film Institute Appoints Michael Lumpkin as New Director for Annual Documentary Film Festival

The American Film Institute has appointed a new director for its annual documentary film festival. Michael Lumpkin, most recently the executive director of the International Documentary Association, will take over at the company as of Jan. 1, 2015. Lumpkin, who will continue to live in Los Angeles, has spent most of his career in the film business. In addition to producing the 1995 documentary The Celluloid Closet, he was director of the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival and served as a Sundance Film Festival juror.
