QNX Software Systems Limited announced that the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)-Marmara Research Center (MRC) has selected the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime OS as the software platform for its new E1000 electric locomotive. The first prototype locomotive was delivered to the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and successfully passed testing. Seventy locomotives are expected to be built by the Turkey Locomotive and Motor Industry Corporation (TULOMSAS) by 2023. The E1000 uses the QNX Neutrino OS in two critical components: the Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS) and the Traction Control Unit (TCU). The TCMS serves as the brains of the E1000, performing centralized management, communications and diagnostics for the locomotive's various subsystems. The TCU ensures optimal traction during acceleration, cornering and braking, and helps maximize the E1000's energy efficiency. The E1000, which is developed and built for TCDD with the cooperation of TUBITAK MRC and TULOMSAS, marks a turning point for the Turkish railway industry, which has traditionally relied on imported rail technology. As the first electric locomotive designed and built in Turkey, the E1000 demonstrates the country's drive to become an innovation hub and, ultimately, a global exporter of train-control systems.

QNX Software Systems Limited demonstrated the QNX(r) SDK for Bluetooth(r) Connectivity, a new middleware solution for medical devices, industrial automation systems, consumer appliances, and other embedded system applications. Designed for flexibility, the SDK offers a dual-mode Bluetooth Smart Ready stack that supports classic Bluetooth connectivity as well as connectivity to Bluetooth Low Energy devices. The SDK is also highly modular, allowing developers to create scalable, future-ready designs that can readily support new Bluetooth profiles. Developers can choose from a comprehensive set of pre-integrated profiles, including the classic PAN, SPP, HDP, HID, FTP, and OPP profiles, as well as the BAS, FMP, HRP, HOGP, and PXP Low Energy profiles. The SDK complies with the latest Bluetooth Core Specification, 4.2. For developers of infusion pumps, vital-sign monitors, and other health-data aggregation devices, the QNX(r) SDK for Bluetooth Connectivity includes an IEEE 11073 Personal Health Data stack certified by the Continua Health Alliance. This stack enables easy interoperability with pulse oximeters, weight scales, and other Bluetooth-enabled peripherals, and addresses the growing demand for health devices that can wirelessly collect patient data, either in a clinical setting or the patient's home. The QNX SDK for Bluetooth Connectivity is powered by technology from Mindtree Limited, one of the co-creators of the Bluetooth 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 specifications. Mindtree has over 15 years' experience supplying and supporting Bluetooth technology, and their IP has been implemented in over 35 million systems worldwide.
