The U.S. filed a lawsuit alleging that Guild Mortgage Co. improperly underwrote mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration. The complaint alleges that during its participation in the FHA insurance program as a direct endorsement lender, Guild submitted false claims for hundreds of improperly underwritten loans. The complaint further alleges that Guild falsely certified compliance with underwriting requirements. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has paid 'tens of millions of dollars' of insurance claims on loans improperly underwritten by Guild. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia under the False Claims Act.
