Melissa H. Leeb joined the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as director of public relations. Leeb has an extensive background in public and media relations. In her early career, Leeb worked in broadcast journalism as a television reporter, weekend anchor and news producer. She later developed public relations, public affairs and marketing communications expertise at several Chicago-based public relations agencies specializing in healthcare communications. Most recently, Leeb was director of public relations for the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Orthopaedic surgeon John J. McGraw, Sr., MD, of Jefferson City, Tenn., was named chair of the Board of Councilors (BOC) of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) at the Annual Meeting. The BOC represents orthopaedic surgeons in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. military, Puerto Rico, Canada, and four regional orthopaedic societies. The BOC serves as an advisory body to the AAOS Board of Directors and a resource to AAOS committees. In addition, the BOC manages Academy relations with the state orthopaedic societies, and conducts a wide range of programs to support and strengthen these organizations. Dr. McGraw is a part of The Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic, and for the past 10 years has anchored the Jefferson City office. He also serves as a team physician for the Tennessee Smokies (Chicago Cubs AA team) and Jefferson County High School. Dr. McGraw also begins his third year as a member of the AAOS Board of Directors. Dr. McGraws extensive military career includes 34 years of commissioned service in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. He participated in deployments to Afghanistan and Kosovo. Dr. McGraw retired in April 2013 as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. Dr. McGraw is the past president of the Southern Orthopaedic Association, and served on the BOC as a representative for that organization.
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Appoints Frederick Azar as President

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons announced that Frederick Azar was named president at the organization's annual meeting. Azar, who also serves as team physician for several professional and amateur athletic programs including the Memphis Grizzlies and the University of Memphis, is the eighth Campbell Clinic physician to serve as president of the AAOS board of directors since the academy's establishment in 1933. Azar will oversee management of AAOS affairs, heading up the administrative body and directing activities and policies related to both the academy and its association. He was vice president of the AAOS board of directors in 2013.
